Becoming a LLUSN Preceptor
Preceptors play a vital role in shaping the next generation of advanced practice providers at Loma Linda University School of Nursing. By opening your clinical setting to nurse practitioner students, you help bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world patient care. Your mentorship directly strengthens the healthcare workforce and expands access for the communities we serve—advancing LLUSN’s mission of whole person care, compassion, and excellence.
Becoming a preceptor is not only an invaluable service to students; it is also a meaningful investment in your own professional growth. Preceptors gain access to academic resources, strengthen clinical leadership skills, stay current with evidence-based practice, and contribute to the development of future colleagues. Whether you precept once a year or in an ongoing capacity, your impact is immediate, lasting, and deeply appreciated.

“Precepting students from Loma Linda University is a truly fulfilling experience that has enabled me to continually strengthen my own knowledge base, while teaching in real time. It has been such a blessing to encourage others as they grow in their professional journey, and an even bigger blessing to see the students succeed in the process."

Why Should I Precept?
Preceptors bridge the gap between theoretical learning and clinical practice. They guide students in meeting clinical objectives and delivering safe and quality patient care. The nationwide shortage of advanced practice providers is directly impacted by the number of clinical sites and preceptors that are available to universities in order to increase enrollment. By becoming a preceptor, you are not only contributing to your students’ professional development and enhancing your professional portfolio, but you are also helping to bridge the gap between patient and provider access.

DNP, APRN, PMHNP
“In psychiatry and addiction medicine, healing is never just clinical. It is deeply human and often spiritual. As a PMHNP preceptor at Loma Linda University, I cherish the moments when students recognize the power of building genuine rapport and learn to help patients feel truly seen, heard, and loved. When students begin integrating spiritual care and compassionate connection into their practice, watching that transformation is one of the greatest rewards of my career.”
